Moving from NYC to Washington DC – top tips to make you feel at home

Are you moving from NYC to Washington DC soon? Are you nervous about it? We have some tips for you that can help you to unpack, settle in and start feeling at home. This is a process we all go through when moving. You need some time to get used to new surroundings no matter how much you were looking forward to this relocation. Luckily we know how to speed things up.

Start exploring Washington DC right away

When you move to a new city (Washington DC in your case), the most important thing to do is get to know your new neighborhood. After unpacking (or even when you take breaks), go for a walk to take your mind off of things for a little while. For a smooth transition, familiarize yourself with all the routes to and from your new place of employment as well as the various modes of transportation available. The more you know about WA the better you will feel. Here is a fun fact for you that can be of help – off-season relocations are usually the easiest.

There is plenty to explore here.

Unpacking and settling in

The sooner you do this the better. If you need some help, you can call allstatemoving.net to help you out. You can’t feel at home before you do all of this and there will be a lot of work. Unpacking is no joke.  But once you are done you can start decorating your new home to your taste and that will make you feel at home surely.

Furnishing your new home

You don’t have to spend a fortune on furniture to give your home a fresh new look. Choose between buying your dream sofa or renting one to see how it feels in your living room before making a final decision. Get all the things you need to make your home more comfortable, such as appliances, gadgets, and so on. If you are moving with your kids make sure to add something for them as well.

The more you decorate and furnish your new home the better you will feel about it. If you have too many items in your home, on other hand, they will make you distracted and overwhelmed. In that case, find storage and get rid of everything you don’t need every day. You will easily find a secure unit for your belongings in Washington DC.

This is actually the fun part.

Personalize your new home

Adding pictures, your own decoration, items from your own home, and other stuff will make the place look familiar. Decorating to your own taste will make the whole place look great to you. That’s why we don’t like renting furniture. There is no history and personality there. Hopefully, this little guide helped you a little bit with moving from NYC to Washington DC and settling in.

I was not looking forward to this move, and I felt pretty stressed out on a moving day, but the movers were great and did all they could to take the anxiety out. I would like to say a special thanks to Steve and his team for a wonderful job!
